My Trixie Cast!
May 22nd, 2010, 8:38pm

Decided to start one of these post-your-favorite-ideas-for-a-Trixie-movie-cast thread, since I don't think there's been one in a while, while looking back on earlier posts.

Here's mine:

 Hayley Mills:  Trixie

Ron Howard circa Happy Days:  Jim

 Sherry Alberoni:  Honey

Isn't Charlie White just a darling Mart?

 Peter Lawford:  Brian

 Logan Bartholomew:  Dan

Elizabeth Taylor circa National Velvet:  Diana

 Jackie Jenkins:  Bobby

 Howard Mcnear:  Mr. Lytell

 Nancy Kulp:  Miss Trask

 Doris Day:  Mrs. Belden

 Zach Ward: Regan

So there's my cast!  I'm still working on the rest of the BWG parents, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love them!

Wow is Dan a dreamboat! Hayley Mills actually played an amateur detective in a couple movies and I always thought of Diana as being modeled after Liz Taylor, because she was so famous for her violet eyes.

Great cast choices, but it's to bad we'd have to go back in time to actually pick up Hayley Mills as a teenager. I wonder if she'd be available to play her mother or maybe great aunt Alicia? Maybe Ron Howard could be Mr. Wheeler and he's got a son in real life that looks just like him at that age? I tend to get carried away hoping that with all of our dreaming about casts and characters that someday someone will want to actually make a movie out of one of the books from the series. I tend to always envision the characters as someone from the old TV series shows myself. Every time I spot a good looking redheaded guy I think hey he'd make a good Jim or a short curly haired blond just has to be our perfect Trixie.

I have a red headed nephew that I rarely get to see that just had a baby with his wife a few months ago. I saw their pictures on facebook just a while ago and man I catch myself thinking he'd make a good Jim character lol. My nephew would probably think I was crazy if he knew that thought crossed my mind.

ROFL. That Trixie is perfect!

*uh* Your choices were actually pretty spot-on, Rachel. I can't think of any people that would make a good ANYTHING. I mean, I can't really see TAYLOR Swift doing a good Honey Wheeler. Smiley

Aw, for some reason my Bobby isn't showing up!   Sad  I'll have to see if I can find another one.  Let's see if this works!

Pedie, I think I will have my current stars as well.  That'll be my next project!  Any ideas who I can find to play Trixie?

Elaine, that would be interesting if Hayley Mills could play one of Trixie's relatives.  Unfortunatly, I don't think that Ron Howard could play Mr. Wheeler due to his uh, lack of hair!

Lol, Ron Howard is probably to old to even be Mr. Wheeler now he'd probably make a better Mr. Wheeler Grandpa...

NDnotebooks, love your choices except Ron Howard for Jim.  Howard is just too "aww, shucks" to me to be handsome and (yes, I must say it  Grin) sexy Jim!

Charlie White is an INSPIRED choice for Mart!  Love it!

I always thought this little girl would have made a good Trixie.  She played the cute but rough-and-tumble moppet types:

(I hope posting links is ok, I couldn't get the pictured copied directly for some reason.)

I've seen her a bit older than this pic and she continued to look Trixie-like.

I couldn't get the link to work, but I found her on that site you have listed and here's her bio and picture.  http://www.childstarlets.com/lobby/bios/melissa_michaelsen.html

And wow, I could see her as a 7 or 8 year old Trixie!

Hayley Mills has been cast many, many times as Trixie by fans.  Makes you wonder who dropped the ball on that film opportunity when she was a child star in the 60s/70s. Wink

I cast all adult actors and current actors for my fanfic site, but I do love the idea of a young Liz Taylor as Diana.  I took out my perfect photo of Heath Ledger (as young adult Bobby) after he died; it just felt too weird to have it up there.

Frankly (and I may get some rotten tomatoes thrown at me for this Wink) I think Ron Howard is as good as you might get for Jim.  Redheaded men generally aren't "hunky" or "supple", imho.  Redheaded men are geeky (my brother's one, I should know Wink).  Probably why so many fans have taken a photo of a sexy actor and colored his hair red to be Jim.  Grin  I got totally lucky and found a photo of sexy actor Matthew Fox (LOST) with his hair dyed red for the movie We Are Marshall.

I'm pretty happy with my "cast" as they stand at the moment, though I have changed them out (and probably still will) from time to time.  No one actor/actress is perfect in my head.  My casting ideas are a combination of the book illustrations (primarily the cream oval covers as that's what I grew up reading), my cast, other people's casts, and the pictures in my head when I'm writing.

^Thanks, ND.

EyeoftheBeholder, you have thrown down the gauntlet!   Cheesy  Must come up with some sexy redheaded guys.  Hmm, going back a good bit, was Van Johnson a redhead or just very fair?  And I guess he was more rugged and dependable than sexy, but still I'd take him as a young man over Ron Howard.  But I'll keep looking!

Yes, I looked it up, and Van Johnson did have red hair.  He WOULD make a good Jim, come to think of it.  I think I'll stick with Ronny though; partly because he was cute and my idea of Jim as a teenager, and partly because I'm biased through too many Andy Griffith show marathons!  Wink

Actually, Ron Howard in Rachel's picture does look very much like the Jim that is illustrated in the "Short & Ugly" editions.

Grin  And I guess I should say that "redheads" on the far fairer end (strawberry blond) can be attractive (ie. Robert Redford, who is my Mr. Wheeler), but when I think of Jim, based on Deluxe illustrations and book descriptions, I think of distinctly red/dark red hair, not fair and almost blond.

Also, my brother, though somewhat Mart geeky and goofy, is also Jim honorable and loyal.  He's a perfect blend of the two, which is probably why I never saw either of them as "sexy".  My brother?..Sexy?  Ewww....  Wink

WOW!! I was friends with Melissa Michaelsen when she was a very little girl, ages 4-8. She lived up the street from me with her family when my family lived in Phoenix in the early 1970's. She might look like Trixie, but there was no tomboy in her! She was a girly girl, more like Diana or Honey. Haven't seen her since I moved to CT just before I was 9, in 1976. She moved with her brother and Dad to California about a year after that, after her Mom died. She got into acting soon after. I hope she's had a great life, she didn't have the easiest early childhood on the planet.

Somewhere I have a picture of her and my other little friends and I at one of my birthday parties. When I was 4 I think, or maybe 5. She was a beautiful little girl, long white blond hair. Model beautiful. I think those curls maybe are a permanent wave, because when I knew her  she had long flowing hair.

Wow, that's neat that you knew Melissa Michaelsen.  And isn't one of her brothers Peter Billingsley aka Ralphie in The Christmas Story?  Is Peter the brother you knew (according to internet bios she had 3 siblings, is that right)?

No, he's a  younger half brother. The brother I knew is named Win. Even as a kid he was very handsome. Same silky white blond hair Melissa had. He is 3 or 4 years older than Melissa. He is near the same age as one of my brothers, they were friends as kids. I am not sure how many siblings she has. I only knew her  and Win. I know her parents were divorced when Melissa and Win were very young.  They lived with their mother. Their father visited fairly often, however. I didn't know until I was much older the parents were divorced. I just thought Mr. Michaelsen worked long hours when I was a little kid and friends with Melissa. After their mother died, they went to live with their dad, step mom and their half siblings.

Melissa Michaelsen and I,September 1971, at my 4th birthday party.  She's about 6 months younger than I am.I'm the one in front on the left. Melissa is on the right in front, looking very surprised with those big blue eyes!  I only remember one other little girl well. The dark haired little girl in yellow with the page boy haircut in the middle of the kids in back is my friend Alexis. She and Melissa and I were friends for years. Along with another little girl friend of ours named Kerrie, we were the little girls in the neighborhood born 1966-1969, and best pals. Kerrie was the youngest, she was maybe 2 or 2 1/2 or so then, why she's not in the pic  I am not sure. The older girls in the back  look like they were  around my brothers' ages, 7 and 8, at the time. I bet they are their friends. Probably the other 2 kids are from my Pre-Kindergarten class.

I've known a few red headed guys in my day that weren't geeky looking at all.

I'd wouldn't want to call someone as close to me as family good looking because you are right that is to gross for words but I do have a picture of my nephew which I haven's seen since he was in his early teens in person. He wasn't geeky back then and today as a young 37 year old man he's definitely not geeky now. So I do know the good looking redheads do exist. It is hard discussing a family member though but he was the best redheaded example I could think of at the moment.

I think everyone has a distinct type of a guy they attract to and not everyone likes redheaded men, not everyone likes dark haired men either. That is actually why we have Dan/Trixie fans and we have Jim/Trixie fans here on the board. That opinion is a lot of the times can be based on what the reader prefers in their own imagination as the better man. I mean if you can't imagine a redhead hot enough or sexy enough to like for yourself you probably wouldn't want to read a story where the main character likes someone described like that.

I can remember when I first found Trixie fan fiction online I'd get so annoyed finding that the writers were writing stories where Trixie would forget about Jim and go for Dan instead. I'd close the story and move on until I did find one where Jim and Trixie were together. I can be classed as a Trixie/Jim fan but now that I've been on the board as long as I have I can sit through reading one about Trixie and Dan as long as the writer remembers to write a reason for why Jim and Trixie didn't work out later. For me, Redheads rule where Dark Complexioned men lose out mainly because in my early experience most dark haired guys were so conceited I could never stand them. That is just early child hood experiences I suppose, but I ended up married to a man with dark blond hair his beard grows in red and his complexion is very redheaded like so I'd say my choice to go with the redheaded type was set in stone every since my childhood. The Trixie books have something to do with that I am sure lol.

IMO, you don't get much "hunkier" than Robert Redford.  Though his hair appeared blonde when he was younger, it is most certainly red now.  Only problem is, he's been cast in so many roles, it might be hard to visualize him as Jim.  He does have Jim's "private" personality and an outdoors, rugged physique.  I could definately cast him in that role.

Here are some links to pics of Redford looking quite "Jim":

I think this last link best fits my image of Jim, if the hair had appeared more red.  In the early days of stardom, I wonder if RR didn't bleach his hair so as not to be labeled "geeky" Smiley
