Part II
"What, where am I?" asked a confused Trixie.
"Hello, dear," said a nurse. "Oh, we almost lost you. It's a miracle. Do you remember what happened?"
"The last thing I remember is running out of the chapel," Trixie replied.
"Oh dear. You got shot, by a guy named Dick, I think," said the nurse.
"Dick? I thought he was in prison!" Trixie said, very shocked at the news.
"Yes, he is way behind bars for life now. There will be no trial, too many
witnesses. What kind of man shoots a woman, in a church for that
matter?!"asked the nurse.
"Oh, I think I know. Revenge. When I was about 13, I found out he had stolen jewels. Or a jewel, I don't remember, it's been so long, but ... my family! What happened? Is Dan okay? What about Jim? And Honey, and Di, and Mom and Dad and..."
"Calm down, sweetie, they're fine, just very worried! That was quite a scare. Especially to a young man, um..."
"Dan?"
"No, I think his name was, Jim." * * *"Nurse! Nurse!" cried Jim, as he ran from the waiting. "Trixie, is she okay, is she awake? Is she...is she..."
"No, Jim, she is just fine, she woke up about 30 minutes ago. She was asking about her family and..." the nurse was cut short when Jim started racing to Trixie's room.
"Trixie! You're okay, oh my God!" said Jim softly.
"Yes, Jim, I am fine, just a little tired that's all, Trixie replied. "The nurse said that I can leave in10 days, at the most. The bullet is out and there is no internal bleeding. They just have to run some tests and keep an eye on me for a little while. Where's Dan I have to apologize to him, I just have to explain, no, explain isn't the right word, I don't know if he would understand."
"I'm sure he will, but ... you know him more than I do so..." Jim answered.
"So...what?" asked Trixie. "I don't think you will even understand, or my family. It's very complicated."
"So complicated you can't tell me?"Jim asked.
"I can Jim, and I will. Right now. The reason I didn't marry Dan was..." she said.
Meanwhile, outside the door of the room:
"Nurse, is she okay? Oh my baby!" cried Helen Belden.
"It's okay Helen, it's okay," Madeleine Wheeler said sympathetically.
"She is going to be okay. That man must not have been a good aimer. He only shot her in the arm, and the chances of her passing away with that condition. Not very big. But there is only one visitor at a time, and that spot has been taken," said the nurse peeking inside Trixie's room, as she and Jim were having a conversation.
"If I had my hands on that man, I'd... I'd..." said Mr.Wheeler furiously,
"I'd kill him," said Peter Belden.
Back in Trixie's room:
"The reason I didn't marry Dan is because of ... you Jim," finished Trixie.
