Happy Holidays VI
I Saw Momma Kissing Santa Claus
by Treanna
She crept softly down the stairs so that her parents wouldn't hear her. The Christmas tree was the only light downstairs and her mouth watered at the thought of the lovely stained glass window cookies that she could smell. She paused and looked down at all the lovely presents all ready under the tree. She wondered how many belonged to her and how many belonged to her brother who slept peacefully in his room. She had wanted to wake him, but she knew at two years old he would most probably have cried and her mother would not have been happy. Only little girls that were four could keep quiet enough to sneak downstairs, have a look at the presents, and sneak a cookie or two.
As she put her foot on the next step, she saw a movement below and stepped back into the shadows. She put her hand over her mouth in shock as she realised that Santa was leaning over her tree with his sack full of toys. She watched in awe as he placed two large parcels under the tree. She was even more shocked when her mother walked into the room. Surely the magic would now disappear.
She watched as Santa stood up and walked towards her mother. And then something happened that she would never forget. Her mother reached over and kissed Santa on his cheek. She then watched in amazement as her mother tickled Santa underneath his beard. She hurried back up the stairs to her room and got back into bed. She decided to wait for cookies until the morning.
Downstairs, her mother smiled. “Do you think she saw?”
Santa smiled. “I knew as soon as she smelt the cookies she would try to sneak down for a couple.”
“I remember dad doing it every year when I was little,” she told him. “It always made my Christmas.”
He pulled her into his arms and hugged her as tight as his round belly would allow. “Well, little lady, what do you want for Christmas?”
She smiled as she kissed him on his lips. “I have everything I need right in my arms. But I do have a Christmas present for Santa.”
A grin spread across his face. “You do?”
She nodded. “But I am afraid that you cannot receive it for another eight months.”
It took him a moment to realise what she was telling him.
He hugged her even tighter, tears forming in his eyes
Katie Frayne lay back down in her bed, her reddish gold curls framing her face. Her green eyes twinkled at what she had just seen.
The words to the song her mother had played today came into her mind as she slipped into dreamland to dream of Christmas presents and cookies.
I saw momma kissing Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night
She didn’t see me creep
Down the stairs to have a peep.
She thought that I was tucked up
In my bedroom fast asleep.
The rest of the words became lost in her dreams.
The End
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL. AND BIG HUGS
