GWP #7 Happy Holidays II
Requirements: Nov-Dec-Jan holiday, a material or non-material gift, a song and less than 1500 words.

I am borrowing the characters from the Trixie Belden series because I want to and because it is the holidays, I will return them unharmed back to the publishing company when I am done. =)

This story is for my daughter who inspired this with her thoughtful words as we sat sipping cups of hot cocoa. The song is a version of Jingle Bells. I would also like to thank Sue for editing this.

Happy Holidays, Trixie Friends, you all are the best!

The Best Present I Can Give You, Mommy, Is My Love

By: Tara

Trixie sighed happily as she put the last bag of items from the store away "Whew. Just in time. What a day," she exclaimed as she glanced at the clock on the stove. It was a few minutes after three and Jamie would be home anytime now.

Walking out of the kitchen and into the living room, Trixie reflected on the events of the day and sighed at the thought of the how busy the holidays were. That would never change.

Trixie looked out the living room window and watched as a purple-coated child got off the bus and walked up to the house. She shook her head as she watched the black boots and blue jean bottoms become covered with the snow that had been falling all day. and threatened to continue falling through the night.

"Well, at least it will be a white Christmas, " she thought, as Jamie flung the door open and called, "I’m home!" As Jamie closed the door, Trixie reminded her gently, "Pick those up, please." She knew that Jamie had probably thrown her coat on the floor and flung her backpack on the couch, as usual.

Trixie turned to see Jamie looking sheepishly at her as she picked the coat up, walked over to the closet, and jammed the coat in it.

What did you do in school today?" Trixie asked, as Jamie came back over and put her backpack away. Jamie had a twinkle in her eye as she replied, "Nothing much. We had indoor recess and Danielle taught us a new song. You want to hear it?"

Trixie nodded as Jamie smiled and sang, "Oh Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg." Trixie shook her head trying to not to laugh and Jamie stopped in mid sentence to ask "What mommy?" Tears came to her green eyes as she looked at her mother. "Don’t you like it?"

Trixie felt sorry Jamie had misunderstood her, and she explained, "No, it's just not a nice version of the song". She smiled as she remembered the time Moms has scolded Mart and Brian for singing it. "I like the version you were singing with your cousins the other day much better. "

"Ok mommy, I'll sing that one for you," Jamie said, smiling as she fixed the headband falling out of her blonde hair.

Trixie walked into the kitchen and put two cups of water in the microwave. As Jamie finished singing, she said, "That was very nice. How about some cocoa and cookies for your snack?"

She peeked from the kitchen into the living room to see Jamie busy drawing something on a piece of paper. "I’d like some cocoa. Are the cookies the ones we made with Drew and Alex?" Jamie asked as the buzzer on the microwave went off.

Trixie smiled as she pulled the two cups of hot chocolate out of the microwave. "Jamie, your cocoa is done. Yes, the cookies are the ones we made with Alex and Drew. You three did a wonderful job helping make the cookies," she replied to her young daughter as she placed two frosted snowmen sugar cookies on a paper plate. Then she grabbed her mug and sat down in front of the heater across from the stove.

"Be right there, Mommy," Jamie called as she put the paper under the tree and hurried into the kitchen.

Jaime picked up her mug. "Did you put milk in it?" she asked.

Trixie shook her head. "No, I didn't. I'm sorry." She got up and went to the fridge to get the milk. As she poured some milk in the cup, Jamie replied "Its ok, mommy. What do you want for Christmas?"

Trixie put the cup in the microwave and set the timer for thirty seconds. She said, "I don't know. Why, did you get me something?" She turned back to the microwave as the timer went off and then handed Jaime her cup of cocoa. Jamie smiled thoughtfully as she took the cup of hot cocoa milk and sipped. She paused for a moment before she replied, "Well I think I know the best present to get you".

"What is it?" Trixie asked curiously as they sat down again.

Jamie moved closer and replied matter-of-factly, as she crawled into Trixie's lap, "My love, and I don't have to wait for another three weeks to give it to you either. "

Trixie sat for a moment, wondering if Jamie understood the meaning of love. "No, you don’t. I love you, too, " she said, as they finished their hot cocoa and cookies. While they sat together watching the snow fall outside the window, Jamie talked about the rest of her school day.

The End
