*all ages

[I began this story on September 16, 1983 when I was in Mrs. Downey’s fifth grade class. I had been reading Trixie for a little over 2 years…this was part of my class journal. Basically this story is horrible J I jump around in my verb tense and grammar…and I switch from 1st to 3rd person…everything will be typed like I have it written (grammar, spelling, punctuation…I’m glad I read it aloud to my students and didn’t give them copies of it…my personal thoughts and comments, almost 20 years later will be enclosed in brackets.[ ] I hope this gives everyone a laugh. The Lost Memory

Chapter 1

(This story is pure fiction)

8 years after 36 [this was added at a later date]

On the day I went to New York City everything went wrong. my plane was late, I got some one elses luggage. I had to find her. The name on the suitcase was sort of familer and so was the address. I saw the apartment I rembered whos it was, it was my friend Honey Wheeler’s mom’s and dad’s apartment house, at least it used a be. [I believe I meant ‘used to be’ there] the name was Honey Belden. I went to the second floor Rm. 000,2. (You see I had lost my memory in a bus wreck/accident [wreck was crossed out and accident written above it – must have been my "rewrite"] I was the only suvivor well the bus driver survied the wreck but died just as the amblance got there. Why I was going to Idaho I don’t rember. I think I was going to meet someone.) [umm, at this point in my life I had never been in an apartment building…I don’t know how I came up with that number…nor why I put a comma there. And as for the spelling…and I was considered one of the better spellers in my class! Guess I shouldn’t be so hard on my students.] I finally found room 000,2. I rang the doorbell no one comes [an ‘a’ is written over the top of the ‘o’…another editing attempt] I knock I hear someone coming. The door opens, a man is standing there. He says hi. I asked him if Honey Belden lives there. He said yes she did he was her husband. I said I came to let her know I found the suitcase of hers. He asked what suitcase. I told him about it. He said Oh, her brother’s. I guess so here it is. Thank You here is yours. Bye. I went home. The next morning the phone woke me up it was Brian Belden he said he was Honey Belden’s husband and she could bring her suitcase today at 9:00 A.M. when her brother was there. Good-bye.

(Oh by the way her name is Trixie Belden) [Obviously we had not learned about paragraphing or conversation yet…Man, this keeps looking worse and worse as I type it…I think in that last part Brian is telling Trixie to bring Honey’s suitcase that morning. I switched person here...and forgot what I had written with them exchanging suitcases the night before. I know that wasn’t all written in one day, but I didn’t date any other part. However, my writing changes slightly in parts and my pencil goes from dull to sharp…I know that 1) Mrs. Downey didn’t give us tons of journal writing time and 2) Mrs. Downey did not tolerate getting up and sharpening your pencil during class time…]

9/28/83

She got dressed, ate breakfast, got the suitcase and left. I got there at five minutes to nine. I knoked on the door and the door opened it was her husband he said that his wife would be out in a minitue. She said she was Honey Wheeler and her brother Jim would bet there in a second. As if on cue there was a knock on the door.

Chapter 2

Oct. 5, 1983

In a second the door opened. A man walked he had red hair and green eyes. He looked like. It was Jim Frayne. He stopped in his tracks. Trixie, Trixie Belden. Jim. [Oct 10, 1983 is crammed in here] Honey Belden came out. Hi Jim, Hi Trix Have you met….Trixie Belden where have you been we have all been worried sick about you for 6 years. Ever since that bus wreck. Everybody thought you were dead. Well except close family and friends. You missed Brian’s and my wedding. We have been married for 5 years. Three kids. Triplets." [random quotation marks] You were giong to my baseball game to watch me play. Said Jim. (To be cont. in Jan) [I think the tainted timeline visited this story…8 years after 36 would make them 22…Trixie missing for 6 years…she vanished at 16? And Brian and Honey got married when Honey was 17? That timeline!]

The Lost Meomory cont. from October

1/9/83 [Okay really it’s 1984, but I forget that for the next few dates…the tainted timeline even caused me problems in my own life ] J

"Now I remember". Trixie told them quietly

1/12/83 I was on the bus when all of the sudden a little red car, about the size of the one Laura Ramsey had. Well anyways it looked at [‘it’ was crossed out and the person in the car was penciled in…more editing] a big truck that was parked at the edge of the road. The person in the car waved to the truck. The truck waited until the bus was right in front of it. When "Crash" next thing I knew was that I was in a hospital. Everyone I saw kept saying "Poor child lucky to be alive". I was told that the bus had went over a cliff and I was the only survirver ["edited" to say ‘survivor’]

1/17/83 I was scared. I was afraid that they were going to try and kill me. It was scary." Trixie said Jim told her, "Don’t worry Trix no one is going to try to kill you now." "I know I keep telling my self, but when [then?] I saw a red car that looked exactly like the one that tried to kill me." She said. (continued in February 15, 1984)

[We must have had a lesson on writing conversation between October and January…and I finally put the period in the right place.]

The Lost Meomory cont. from Jan.

2/15/84 When Trixie asked if she could call her parents Brian said "Sure you can Sis. After that I will call Mart and Di." "Ok Brian." Trixie replied. When Mrs. Belden heard Trixie voice on the phone she told Trixie that her and dad would be up in about 1 ½ hours to see her.

(Continued in April)

[That’s all folks! If I did continue it in April, I must have ripped it out or written it somewhere else ‘cause that’s all there is in this journal. I think the reason that I’ve kept this journal all these years is because of this story. Pathetic that it is, it at least makes me laugh. I know that I wrote more stories using either characters from the books or at least their names…the following year in sixth grade I wrote a story that won a contest and I think the main character’s name was Beatrix…it was about a lady who wore all red. I believe it was titled "The Red Lady"…hmm, what year did the song ‘Lady in Red’ come out? Actually, I don’t think that one was inspired by the song…red just happened to be my favorite color. That was my first murder…and now look at me. Okay, that was random and basically unrelated to this. This isn’t as good the other "early" writings that have been posted, but maybe it will give everyone a laugh. I promise to post something real soon…beth]
