You’re Still the One
By Hilary
When I first saw you, I saw love.
40-year-old Trixie Frayne sat on the couch in her living room staring at the TV. It was 9:30pm and 42-year old Jim Frayne was still not home. She got up and began pacing around the living room.
And the first time you touched me, I felt love.
Finally, at 10PM, Jim walked in the door with his hands behind his back.
And after all this time, you’re still the one I love.
Trixie turned to look at the door and saw Jim standing there. She ran over to him, but stopped about one metre away from him.
Looks like we made it, Look how far we’ve come my baby
Jim pulled a big bunch of roses from behind his back.
“Oh, Jim! You remembered our anniversary!” Trixie squealed as she took the flowers.
We mighta took the long way, we knew we’d get there someday
While Trixie was putting the flowers in some water, Jim set about preparing something special. He pulled a box out of his pocket and sat it on the table with a note.
They said, “I bet they’ll never make it” But just look at us holding on, we’re still together, still going strong
When Trixie returned to the lounge with the flowers she noticed the note and the box. She set the flowers down and opened the note, it read: Didn’t think I’d forget our special day, did you? Meet me by the old oak, take this box with you but make sure that you don’t peek or you’ll ruin the surprise. Love, Jim xoxoxo
(You’re still the one) You’re still the one I run to, the one that I belong to
Trixie gathered up the note and the box. She put her shoes on then headed out to the old oak.
You’re still the one I want for life, (you’re still the one) you’re still the one that I love
At the old oak Jim waited. He looked behind the tree to make sure everything was still there. Then he saw Trixie heading towards him.
The only one I dream of, you’re still the one I kiss goodnight
At the sight of Trixie Jim smiled. She was wearing a loose purple shirt and a knee length blue skirt.
Ain’t nothin’ better, we beat the odds together
Trixie saw Jim and started to run instead of walk. She reached the tree and handed Jim the note and box.
I’m glad we didn’t listen, look at what we would be missin’
Jim covered Trixie’s eyes with his hands as he led her to the other side of the tree. He removed his hands from her eyes. There in front of her was a romantic dinner for two. She sat down and Jim sat beside her. He took her hand in his and brought it up to his lips. He kissed it softly, then sat it beside her.
They said, “I bet they’ll never make it”
“Remember how, when we first got together how everyone used to say ‘They’ll never be together for long, they’re just too young’? Well I remember that the first time we kissed you said something along the same lines,” Jim said, as he turned to face Trixie.
But just look at us holding on, we’re still together still going strong
“Yes,” Trixie replied. Jim took the box from his pocket.
“Trix, I love you, and I saw this in a shop window and immediately thought of you, would you do me the honour and wear it?” Jim said. He opened the box and revealed a beautiful diamond and ruby eternity ring. Trixie held out her left hand and Jim slipped the ring on. It fit perfectly with her engagement ring. He took he face in his hands and kissed her tenderly on the lips.
(You’re still the one) You’re still the one I run to, the one that I belong to
Trixie returned the kiss, then they ate their meal, occasionally stealing a glance at each other. Their meal was eaten quickly and soon they were dancing in the moonlight. Jim had brought a radio and they we’re dancing to the last bit of “You’re Still the One”.
You’re still the one I want for life (You’re still the one) You’re still the one that I love, the only one I dream of, you’re still the one I kiss goodnight. (You’re still the one) You’re still the one I run to, the one that I belong to, you’re still the one I want for life (You’re still the one) You’re still the one that I love, the only one I dream of, you’re still the one I kiss goodnight.
Then they both finished, “I’m so glad we made it, Look how far we’ve come my baby”
The End
