Trixie Belden: Kidnapped
by Hilary
Trixie and Jim
The sun was shining bright as twenty-five year old Trixie Belden walked down the street of her new home, New York City.
As she walked by Alberto’s Ristorante and Pizzeria she heard softly someone singing, “Pretty Woman, Walking down the street, Pretty Woman, The kind I’d like to meet Pretty Woman” As she turned around she felt someone grab her round the waist and pull her gently into a little alley between Alberto’s and Frank’s. When she turned around she was face to face with Jim.
“Jim? Is that you?” Trixie asked astounded at how much he had changed in the year she had been away.
“Yeah, it’s me. Sorry about scaring you. I just wanted to surprise you...” twenty-seven-year-old Jim Frayne said before Trixie cut him off.
“That’s okay. I was just on my way to see you when I…”
This time it was Jim’s turn to cut her off. “Shhhh,” he said softly as he leant in and kissed her softly on the lips. Slowly, they deepened the kiss. When they pulled away, they set off together for Jim’s apartment.
As Jim unlocked his apartment door, Trixie felt a sudden sense of belonging.
“Make yourself comfortable and I’ll make us some hot chocolate,” Jim said. While Jim was making the drinks, Trixie looked around the living room. All over the mantle piece and on the walls were photos of either just Trixie or of Trixie and Jim.
As she made herself comfortable on the sofa Jim came out with the drinks. As she sipped, she noticed Jim looked up tight about something. What in the world could have made him up tight in such a short time? Trixie wondered. To make him feel better Trixie put down her drink and snuggled up to him. He put his arm around her and pulled her in closer. Not able to take it any longer, Trixie asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing it’s just every time I’m near you I want to be nearer and I keep remembering that last time you said you weren’t ready,” Jim replied.
“I’ve changed now, I am ready,” Trixie said.
“Really! You mean it!” Jim asked, taken by surprise.
In reply, Trixie kissed him passionately. As they kissed Jim pressed Trixie’s body into the cushions.
Honey, Trixie and Jim
“Hold your horses! I’m coming!” yelled twenty-five-year-old Honey Wheeler as the loud rapping on the front door continued. When she finally reached the front door, she was shocked to see Trixie and Jim standing there with a yellowy, brown envelope in their hands.
“Hi what are you doing here? Sorry I mean come in it’s great to see you,” Honey spluttered as she opened the door. “Hi, Trix.” Honey gave her best friend a hug.
“Hey Jim,” she said and gave her brother a kiss on the cheek.
“What’s in the envelope?” Honey asked curiously.
“You better sit down first,” Jim said.
“Oh, no. You haven’t been evicted or been sent to jail or anything, have you?” Honey asked worriedly as she sat down uncomfortably on the couch.
“It’s good news actually,” Jim said.
“Shall you tell her or will I?” Trixie asked Jim.
“Why don’t we let her read it for herself?” Jim suggested.
“Ok, that sounds good. Honey, we want you to read this,” Trixie said, giving her the envelope.
They sat in silence for a minute waiting to see what Honey thought.
“OH, MY GOD!” Honey yelled. “You’re pregnant! That’s great!”
“You really think so?” asked Trixie.
“Yeah, it’s awesome! I’ve always wanted to have a child. Don’t you think you’re a bit young?” Honey said in one breath.
“Yeah, I suppose we’re probably a bit young, well, Trixie has only just finished collage, but we really want this child and we are engaged,” Jim replied, hugging Trixie.
“I was wondering, Honey, because you are Jim’s sister, would you mind if our baby calls you Aunty?” Trixie asked.
“Me! An Aunty! Of course I’d love it!” Honey cried.
Di and Mart
“Are you finished with the shower yet?” twenty-six-year-old Martin Belden yelled at the bathroom door.
“Just be patient! Don’t you know women always take a long time in the bathroom?” twenty-five year old Diana Lynch yelled back at the door.
“Uh-huh, how could I forget? Trixie was always in the shower for ages…” Mart drifted off into another world.
“Moms! Tell Brian to leave me alone! I’m nearly finished!” Trixie yelled.
“That’s what you said fifteen minutes ago!” Brian yelled back at his sister.
“Okay, Trixie. Brian, leave your sister alone. Trixie get Brian when you’re finished,” Moms said.
Brian and Trixie
“Brian, I’m here!” Trixie yelled from the front door of Crabapple Farm. Trixie had agreed to meet her oldest brother Brian there and discuss a few things. Trixie let herself in and dumped her bags on the floor.
“Trix! I’m glad you could make it” twenty-nine-year-old Brian Belden said when her saw Trixie standing by her untidily placed bags. Trixie raced up and hugged her brother.
“Sorry I’m late, there’s a lot more cars out there than you would think. I got stuck in a traffic jam,” Trixie told her brother. “How’s Ginnie*?”
“Ginnie? Oh, Ginnie, she’s fine,” Brian replied coming out of his daze.
“I have some great news for you,” Trixie said with a hint of excitement in her voice.
“You graduated from university and are going to be an astronomer?” Brian asked intrigued.
“No silly, I’m pregnant,” Trixie said.
“Now, you’re kidding, aren’t you?” Brian asked looking at his sister’s stomach to see if it looked any bigger.
“No, I’m dead serious,” Trixie replied, the seriousness in her voice more strong.
“Who’s the father?” Brian asked, with a look of slight anger on his face.
“Jim. Jim’s the father of my baby,” Trixie replied, coolly.
Di and Mart
“Hurry up, Mart. We’ll be late for the party and you know how much this means to Honey!” Di yelled through the door at Mart.
“Yeah, of course, I do. If we miss this, Honey will have us drawn and quartered,” Mart joked to himself.
He and Di were going to Honey’s for a party to celebrate Trixie’s return after her long trip to England to stay with some relatives. Little did they know what they were in store for.
Honey, Dan and Brian
It was five o’ clock and Honey was sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring.
“I’ll be ready this time,” Honey said determinedly at the phone. It had rung several times before and she had missed it. Finally, it rang.
“Hello?” Honey asked into the phone.
“Hi, Honey, It's me--Dan. I just called to say I can make it tonight, but I’ll be a bit late,” Dan’s familiar voice said from the other end of the line.
“I hope not too late otherwise you’ll miss seeing Trix’s face when she sees us all,” Honey said.
“I won’t be any later than seven. Is that too late?” Dan asked.
“No, that would be a good time because Trix won’t be here until seven-thirty,” Honey replied.
“That’s good, See ya,” Dan said.
“Bye,” Honey replied as they hung up the phone.
“One down, one to go,” Honey said to herself as she crossed Dan’s name off her list of people who haven’t been invited yet.
“One-seven-five-eight-three-two-nine-six,” Honey said each number as she dialed Brian’s number.
“Hello, who’s this?” Honey heard from the other end.
“Hi Brian, it’s me, Honey. I just called to see if you can make it tonight to Trixie’s welcome home party,” Honey said.
“I suppose I can make it. What time?” Brian asked.
“Would seven be okay?”
“Yeah, seven’s fine. I love you, Bye.”
“Love you too. Bye.”
The Party
It was seven-twenty-five and all the guests were at Honey’s place in their hiding spots waiting for the front door to open.
“Here she comes! Everyone ready!” Honey said quietly when she saw Trixie heading up the path.
“SURPRISE!!!!!” Everyone yelled the moment Trixie had opened the door and was standing in the doorway.
“Thank you,” Trixie said, overwhelmed at the amount of effort every one had put in to surprise her. In turn, every guest gave her a hug.
When every one was settled and talking, Brian took the time to go over and talk to Jim.
“What do you think you’re doing! Going out and getting my sister pregnant!” Brian yelled as soon as he and Jim were out of earshot of the others.
“Hey cool off! It was her idea,” Jim said, thinking what to say next.
“Yeah, right, it was her idea!” Brian was really angry now.
“Look, she’s a grown woman. She can make her own decisions. As her fiancé, I respect that and, as her brother, you should too,” Jim replied.
“Her fi… fiancé?” Brian stuttered, shocked at the sudden blow he slid himself down the wall until he was sitting on the floor.
Noticing that Brian was talking to Jim and that Jim looked rather scared, Trixie politely excused herself from the group and went to see what was going on. Halfway there she heard Brian say, “I knew something was going on. How could you, Jim? I trusted you with my sister and you blew it!”
“Huh-hum!” Trixie cleared her throat.
Brian stopped talking and turned to his sister. Trixie kept walking till she was at Jim’s side. Standing next to Jim she slipped her arm around his waist.
“What are you fellows up to over here?” she asked casually.
“Umm…nothing, Trix. I was just, ahhhh… just, um, congratulating Jim on the baby,” Brian said while racking his brain for the right thing to say.
“Don’t you dare lie to me, Brain Belden! I’m not dumb you know! I heard what you said to Jim!” she yelled, her voice rising higher with every word. “What do you care about what I do with my life!!? You’re so wrapped up in Ginnie, you wouldn’t notice if I went and jumped of a cliff!!” Trixie yelled.
“Ginnie?” Brian said confused.
“You know, your girlfriend,” Trixie replied, anger still evident in her voice.
“Ginnie isn’t my girlfriend. I’m dating Honey,” Brian replied.
“Oh,” was all Trixie could manage.
By then all the Bob-Whites were looking at them wondering what was going on. When the saw Brian’s face they knew instantly. Mart, who had been listening intently to their conversation, said “You’re pregnant? And when, perchance, where we, your best friends, ever going to be informed of this miraculous thing?”
“I was going to tell you all later after we had told Moms and Dad. I suppose we had better explain it to you now that it is out,” Trixie said.
Slowly, she led the curious group over to the lounge where they all sat and listened intently as Trixie told the story.
Trixie and Jim
“I am so glad that’s over,” Trixie said as she flopped down onto the couch in Jim’s apartment.
“You’re not the only one,” Jim replied from his place in the kitchen.
Trixie got up and walked over to lean on the bar that separated the kitchen from the lounge.
“I can’t believe that everyone except Honey and Di were against us keeping this child. I mean, out of all people, I thought Mart would have been the first to congratulate us, instead they all just snubbed their noses at us.” Trixie was now on the brink of tears.
“I know, baby, it doesn’t make sense. At least Honey and Di are still talking to us,” Jim said, trying his best to show the positive side of things.
“Yeah, until they suddenly feel bad about differing from their boyfriends that they change their minds and side against us!” Trixie cried as tears welled up in her eyes.
“Oh Trixie,” Jim said as he came out of the kitchen and put his arms around his fiancée. She turned in his arms and laid her head on his muscular chest.
“It’s okay, baby,” Jim said reassuringly. He felt her body tremble as sobs wracked her body. She cried long and hard into his shirt. He walked her over to the couch sat her down beside him. She moved over until she was practically sitting on him. He put his strong arms around her and let her cry.
Honey and Brian
It was a sullen couple that cleaned well into the night.
“How could he?” Brian asked Honey. He slumped down onto the couch. Honey came and sat beside him reassuringly taking his large hand in her small one.
“I don’t know, but I think we should be supportive of them in any way we can,” Honey replied softly.
Three months later
Tap, tap, tap. That noise was back.
“Urrrgh,” a very moody Trixie said when she heard the tapping noise again. She climbed out of bed and headed towards the door.
“I have tried to ignore it, but it won’t go away. When I get my hands on whatever is making that noise, I’m gonna…..” Her sentence was cut short when she felt a sharp pain in the back of her head.
“Come on Trixie, it’s me Jim. Open up!” Jim yelled from Trixie’s front door. Not able to wait any longer Jim turned the handle. It opened.
That’s weird, Jim thought, Trixie never leaves her door unlocked.
He walked up the passage and went into the lounge. He saw a note on the table. It was addressed to him. The note said:
Jim
I have your precious Trixie. If you want to see her in one piece, go to warehouse 9125 on the dock. I want no less than $100,000. Come alone other wise it’s bye, bye, no more Trixie Belden PI.
Jim shifted uncomfortably.
Mart and Di
“When I get my hands on him!” an angry Mart said to Diana as they walked down the street to Trixie’s apartment.
When they reached the steps to Trixie’s front door they noticed that it was slightly open. They walked up the stairs and peered in.
“Hellooooo, anybody home!” Di called through the open doorway. With no reply, they walked in. They walked up the hall and into the lounge where they saw Jim, as pale as a ghost, the note hanging loosely from his fingers.
”Jim, are you all right? Where’s Trixie?” Di asked worriedly.Jim slowly handed her the note. Di carried it over to Mart and they read it together. When they had finished reading it, they, too, were pale as ghosts. Di looked at Jim and burst into tears.
“Someone has to tell Brian and Honey,” Jim said.
At an apartment somewhere in New York
“Well, well, well, Miss Belden has finally woken up. Had a nice dream about lover boy Jim?” a tall man who was standing in a doorway said. His face was covered by a shadow so Trixie couldn’t be positive who he was.
“Who are you and what are you going to do with me?” Trixie said with more confidence than she felt. She sat up slowly. She felt pain in the back of her head. She put one hand where it hurt. When she looked at her hand she saw blood.
“All in good time, my dear,” he said gruffly. “You’re coming with me.” He stalked over to her, grabbed her arm, and dragged her out to a waiting car. He lifted her up and threw her on to the back seat. When she landed, she put her hands protectively over her ever growing stomach.
The man watched from the front passenger’s seat.
The car pulled over an hour or so later. Trixie was yanked from the car. Her hands and feet were then tied. A gag was put in her mouth and she was carried her into a warehouse. She was thrown onto the ground and the man walked away closing the door behind him. Trixie was left in total darkness except for the small stream of light shining in through a window.
Jim, Mart and Di
“I’ll tell Brian,” Mart said.
“It’d definitely be a lot safer that way.” Jim was grateful for he was not looking forward to telling Brian.
“I’ll tell Honey, that way you’ll have time to get the money,” Di said.
Four hours later at the warehouse
The warehouse doors opened and five men walked in. One walked over to where Trixie was sleeping and kicked her in the side to wake her up. She awoke with fright. The bright light hurt her eyes and she had to close them to shield them.
“Sit up and open your eyes,” a man ordered.
Trixie obeyed and sat up. When her eyes adjusted to the light, she saw Jim nervously standing in the big doorway.
“Before we give you back we want to give you something to remember us by,” one man said, a smirk on his ugly face. He walked over to where Trixie sat. He stood her up, then hit her in the stomach. She felt a sharp pain fly through her body. She curled up on the ground and whimpered. The man then kicked her in the ribs. He walked away from Trixie’s whimpering body and went back to talk to Jim.
“You got the cash?” he demanded more than asked.
“Yes, but you get it as soon as I get Trixie,” Jim said, pain evident in his voice.
“Fine,” the man said. He walked over and picked up Trixie’s arms. He dragged her over the rough ground until she was at Jim’s feet.
“There. You got the kid, now I get the cash,” he said.
Jim handed him the briefcase, waited until they left, then knelt beside Trixie.
He removed the gag and untied her arms and legs.
“It’s gone,” she mumbled.
“What?” Jim asked.
“The baby, it’s gone!” she cried. Tears streamed down her dirty face.
Jim picked her up and placed her so that she stood. She couldn’t stand and immediately fell into Jim’s arms. He caught her and wrapped his big arms around her tiny, fragile frame. She cried into his chest. Suddenly they could hear sirens. Police cars came out of nowhere. The couple were soon surrounded by the Bob-Whites. The paramedics came and took Trixie to the hospital so she could be checked over.
The next day
Everyone crowded into Trixie’s small private room in the hospital. Jim knelt by the bed gently stroking Trixie’s hand. In one corner stood Honey and Brian. In the other corner stood Mart, Dan and Di. In the middle of the room at the end of the bed stood Mr and Mrs Belden and Mr and Mrs Wheeler.
Trixie’s doctor walked in and said, “Trixie, I have some bad news. Would you like to hear it privately or can everyone here know”
“They can hear it now so I won’t have to explain it again and again,” Trixie told Dr.Marpel.
“Okay, Trixie, I am sorry to inform you that you have lost your child.” Dr.Marpel said it with so much sympathy that tears welled up in her eyes. “I’ll leave you alone now.”
“I’m sorry, Jim!” Trixie cried.
“It’s okay, baby, you’re safe and that’s all that matters now.” Jim swallowed hard to keep the lump in his throat down.
“Ohhh! Trixie!” Honey and Di cried simultaneously.
Brian swallowed his pride and said, “I’m sorry, too. I was just getting used to the thought of being an uncle.”
“I’m sorry, too. We should never have said anything,” Mart said with tears in his eyes. Mrs Belden and Mrs Wheeler both sniffed back tears.
“I’m too young to be a grandmother anyway,” Mrs Belden said.
Three days later Trixie was released back in to the care of her family and friends.
“So, are things okay between us now?” Jim asked hopefully as the Bob-Whites enjoyed a nice evening stroll around Central Park.
“Nearly,” Brian said.
“BOYS!” the three girls yelled simultaneously.
They all laughed and admired the scenery.
