When Two Worlds Meet
by Treanna
Trixie could not sit any longer. Jim smiled as he watched her pace around the living room.
She turned to him and he hid his smile. "How much longer?" she asked.
Jim looked at his watch and stood up. "How about we head out there now?"
Trixie grabbed his hand and headed for the door. The other Bob-Whites laughingly followed.
Sitting in the car, Trixie again found it hard to sit still. As the minutes passed she became more and more restless. She leant forward in the seat hoping to move the car along faster.
"Impatient, Trix?" her brother asked from the back seat and she looked around.
"Brian, you are just as impatient as I am to find out what Mr Wheeler's surprise is so dont pretend."
Brian smiled back at his sister. "We all are wondering what the surprise is, but leaning forward will not make it come any faster."
Trixie was surprised when the car stopped and Jim got out. He leant down and smiled at her. "So, arent you coming?"
Trixie leapt out of the car and the other Bob-Whites followed.
Jim lead them to the door of a two-storey house and took a key card from his pocket and put it into the slot. Then he punched in some numbers and they heard a click. He then opened the door.
"The lab is on the second floor," he told them as he headed for the stairs.
"Lab?" Trixie questioned.
He turned to her and smiled. "Yes, Shamus, lab."
They followed him upstairs to a large room where a man sat at a computer. When he heard footsteps he turned and then stood up.
Trixie took in the mans appearance. He was what she would consider a typical scientist. He wore thick wide-rimmed glasses and a white lab coat. His hair was ruffled as if he had been running his fingers through his hair. But his smile was genuine and Trixie smiled back.
"You must be Trixie?" he asked, walking towards her and extending his hand.
Trixie took it and smiled again. "How do you know that?"
"I will tell you what is going on here and then I can answer any questions you have. My name is Edmund Hinglebummer." Trixie hid a grin and he smiled. "I certainly have a scientist's name, dont I?"
Trixie decided she liked this man.
"Most people call me Professor H."
They all nodded.
"Mr Wheeler has given me the funding to work on my research regarding future computers. Recently, I had a breakthrough." He pointed to the computer. "I would like you to see, Trixie, what I have found."
He walked over to the computer and they all followed him. He pointed to the screen and Trixie turned to look. She gasped and the others crowded around.
She looked at the Professor and he smiled. "You are looking at a computer program from the year two thousand and four."
Trixie shook her head. "That is impossible. You cannot go into the future."
"Actually, I can."
Trixie looked again at the screen. "So, what is that?"
"That, my dear, is the Trixie Belden web site."
Mart laughed. "Sure, Professor, sure."
"It's true," Jim told him. "I have seen it a couple of times and I am sure that the Professor has found a way to go into the future on the computer."
Trixie looked at Jim. "I still dont understand."
"Someone wrote a set of books, thirty-nine in all, about our adventures, starting from when you found me until you went to the Murrows' farm and found the galloping ghost. Apparently, the books were so popular people all over the world get together once a year for a camp and also have a clubhouse where they discuss the books, us, and anything else they want to."
"Dont forget the fanfic," Professor H. added.
"Fanfic?"
"On this web site, many people have written stories about us," Jim revealed.
"Like what?"
"Some are about when we grow up and some put in parts that were not put in the books."
Trixie closed her eyes for a moment, contemplating what she'd learned, and then she opened them and looked directly at the Professor. "Show me."
And he did. For the next hour Jim brought up story after story and they all read in silence.
"You have passed a few, Jim. Why?"
Jim blushed slightly. "Some of them are password protected and are only recommended for anyone over eighteen. You, Honey, and Di are only sixteen."
"But you have read them?" She could tell by his face that he had. "So, what are they about?"
"Oh, about when you and Jim marry and what happens after that." The professor grinned.
"So, let us read them."
Jim shook his head.
Trixie was about to ask more when Honey squealed delightedly. "Hey, Trix, here is one where you and Dan get married."
"What!"
"No way," Dan laughed. "Trix would definitely be on the bottom of my list for a marriage partner."
"Thanks, Dan, and the same to you."
"Shall we read it?"
"No," Jim protested. "The professor has something else to show us."
"That I do." The professor smiled. "I have discovered a way to bring seven of the people that are currently at the clubhouse here so we can talk to them."
"No way!" Dan exclaimed.
"Indeed, I can," he told them as he sat down at the computer and began to type furiously. "Watch the corner."
Suddenly, the lights went off and a greenish glow appeared in the corner. There was a sudden bang and a scream and the lights appeared. Seven figures stood in the corner, a look of surprise on their face.
"Where are we?" one of them asked.
Trixie walked bravely forward. "My name is Trixie Belden."
The seven looked at each other in surprise and delight. One clapped her hands excitedly. "If this is a dream, then it is the best one I have ever had." She looked around the room. "You are Brian, Mart, Dan, Honey, Di and, of course, Jim."
They all nodded as they came forward to greet them.
One laughed in delight. "Hey, Jim, dump the blond. What you need is a real woman. Me."
Trixie turned, unsure of what she had heard. "What?"
The woman smiled at the look on her face and the redness of Jim's.
"Mart, dude, whats with the hair?"
Mart ran his fingers through his close-cropped hair and laughed. "I like you. Whats your name?"
She smiled. "Call me Janey."
"Im Ashley," another one said. " I would love you girls to come to my house for a slumber party. You can bring the guys, too. They are too cute to be left behind."
"I dont know if we can do that." Honey smiled as she linked her arm through Brian's. "Maybe another time."
"Trixie, how do you manage to fit everything into one day?"
Trixie turned and smiled. "And you are?"
"Hayday."
Trixie laughed. "I wish I knew. I guess I am just too busy to think about it. But I certainly sleep well at night."
"Dan?"
"Yes, Hayday?"
"Can you fix me up with that cute uncle of yours?"
Another woman chuckled. "Then you can ask that cute uncle of Dan's to fix me up with his cute nephew."
"KayRenee," Hayday laughed. "I will certainly do that."
Dan blushed and then turned to another. "And you are?"
"Call me Franollie. I would love to go camping with you all. I am sure that Cook and Moms would send us delicious food. To go swimming with you would be perfectly perfect. And so would riding a horse with you because I never have."
"Oh, what fun!" Honey exclaimed. "I want to keep you all here."
Trixie eyed the last two. One seemed to be totally speechless and the other seemed to be drooling at the sight of the boys.
"Hi," Trixie said. "Which two are you?"
"I am April and this is my friend KinNC."
"Cant she speak?"
"She is just speechless because of meeting you all."
Trixie turned to watch Jim in deep conversation with the one called Janey. When he saw her looking, he blushed.
Suddenly, there was another flash and a figure appeared before them. She was dressed all in white and her face was in shadow. Only a few had seen her and for most she was just a figure at the end of an e-mail line.
"It is time that my friends go home," she told them.
"Who are you?" Trixie asked, slightly awed.
"I am the beginning of this," she told them. "I am a friend to all and a major admirer of you all. But you must say your goodbyes now."
For the next minute the Bob-Whites hugged their new friends.
Then the figure in white spoke again. "We must go now, but come and visit us whenever you can. You will see what we think of you and you can read more fanfic about your adventures."
As the figures began to fade Trixie called out.
"Please, tell me what your name is."
But all they could hear was a loud ZAP.
* * *
Trixie stood outside her house later that night trying to take in all that she had seen and heard.
"Penny for them."
Trixie turned and smiled at Jim. "I was just trying to take it all in."
"It was a lot, wasnt it?"
"Can we call others again?"
He walked towards her and nodded. "Professor H. is sure we can bring others back and maybe soon we can go and visit them when they have the next Trixie camp."
"So, what were you and Janey talking about?"
He laughed. "How did I know that you would ask that?"
"Is it a big secret?"
He watched her for a moment and then smiled. "She asked me how I really felt about you. She wanted all the details."
Trixie was glad it was dark because she knew she was blushing. "Oh."
"Dont you want to know what I told her?"
When she didnt answer, he walked in front of her and took her hands. "I told her that I was glad that you were now sixteen because I wanted to ask you to be my official girlfriend because I totally adore you."
She looked up at him and grinned. "You do?"
"I do and I told her that I hoped that the feeling was mutual. And she told me I had better believe it."
"She did?"
He nodded. "But I would rather hear it from you. She told me to tell you also that actions speak louder than words and you would know what she meant."
Trixie slid her arms around his waist and he did the same.
"I understand," she told him as she raised herself slightly to join her lips with his.
It has been a really good day, she thought before thinking became impossible.
The End
